9. Internal linking

 Google advises 100 per page as a maximum, although it is OK to go with more on more important and heavily linked-to pages.Make sure the site makes good use of text on its internal links. This is a free opportunity to inform users and search engines what the various pages of your site are about.

10. External linking

Check the inbound links to the site. Use a back linking tool to collect data about your links On the flip side, make sure the site’s critical keyword is showing up a fair number of times. A lack of the keyword usage in inbound  text is not good either. You need to find a balance.

11. Image alt tags

Do all the images have relevant keyword-rich image alt attributes text and file names. Search engines can’t easily tell what is inside an image, and the best way to provide them with some clues is with the alt attribute and the filename of the image.

12. Keyword Density

 Keyword density is the percentage of the number of times a keyword appears on a page divided by the total number of words in that page. So if in an article of 100 words you are using your keyword 10 times, your density will be 10%.

13. Keyword Proximity

Keyword Proximity refers to the distance between two words or phrases, or how close keywords are to each other within a body of text. The closer the two keywords are to each other, the higher the weight for that phrase.

Keyword prominence refers to how prominent your keywords are within the key elements of your web page.

15. Social Sharing Options

You can use social media to bring new users to your website. The simplest way to do this is by adding social sharing buttons to posts and pages.

16. Duplicate content checks

The  way to do this is to take unique strings from each of the major content pages on the site and search on them in Google. Make sure you enclose the string inside double quotes (e.g., “a phrase from your website that you are using to check for duplicate content”) so that Google will search for that exact string.

17. Robots.txt file

The robots. txt file, also known as the robots exclusion protocol or standard, is a text file that tells web robots  which pages on your site to crawl. It also tells web robots which pages not to crawl. Let’s say a search engine is about to visit a site. This is used mainly to avoid overloading your site with requests.

18. SiteMap.xml

Sitemap  or XML sitemap, is a list of different pages on a website. XML is short for “extensible markup language,” which is a way to display information on a site. By placing a formatted xml file with site map on your webserver, you enable Search Engine crawlers to find out what pages are present and which have recently changed, and to crawl your site accordingly. A sitemap is a way of organizing a website, identifying the URLs and the data under each section.
